Afterloader: MultiSource®

The MultiSource® HDR afterloadersystem is designed for the entire range of HDR brachytherapyapplications, and can be used with a Co-60 or an Ir-192 source.

The MultiSource® radiation sources have two things in common – a small size and a favorable dose distribution.

Multiple Applications
MultiSource® is a HDR afterloader, especially developed for safe and accurate intraluminal, interstitial, intracavitary, intraoperative, and surface mould treatments. A complete range of applicators, catheters, needles, and templates is available. MultiSource® can be equipped with an Iridium-192 source or with a Cobalt-60 source, as the customer wishes.

Miniaturized Co-60 Source
Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG´s expertise in the manufacturing of sealed sources has resulted in a modern high activity Co-60 source which is still unique worldwide and represents the latest high-end technology for miniaturized sources on the medical device market. The size of the Co-60 source is almost identical to the size of a conventional Ir-192 source. Both sources can be used for the same applications and deliver equivalent treatment results.

Lower Operating Costs with Co-60
Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG´s Co-60 source is particularly costefficient: Just one source exchange every 5 years of operation is required, compared to up to 20 source exchanges for Ir-192. This results in a significant reduction of operating costs including source exchanges, transport, and formalities.

Integrated Calibration System
An integrated fixed length path guarantees precise calibration of the source transportation system. Source position accuracy can be verified with the provided camera. The data is automatically incorporated into the software.

Channel Coding
MultiSource® indexer connectors, transfer tubes, and gynecological applicators are color coded, enabling the user to perform cervix applications with a minimized risk of confusing thechannels.

Automatic Length Verification
MultiSource® automatically measures the length of every applicator, catheter or needle. This feature guarantees precise treatment and ensures that only the applicator selected in the planning can be used for treatment.

Integrated Dosimetry System
Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG offers an optional In-Vivo Dosimetry system which is integrated into MultiSource®. The MultiSource® software allows to operate the dosimetry system from the control unit and permits the specification of dose limits and the display of rectum and bladderdoses. Compared to other external systems, this built-in system saves space and makes handling easier and more comfortable.

40 Channel Support
The 40 Channel Support permits the complete range of HDR applications. For applications that require more than 20 channels, the treatment will be performed in two consecutive steps which are executed in a single sequence and recorded in the patient chart as one session.
